I'm on the train to Beijing, sitting on the seat, number 7C. This supposes to be the second best cabin of the second best (in terms of speed and quality) train available, however the people I met here still protray unsightly behavior. Indeed many things are out of our control. No matter how much we would want to influence people, or situation around us, just one person isn't enough.
Just like I can't control how many times one person should bathe daily (some people really smell bad and it amplifies when you are in an enclosed area). I can't change the way person speak (so loud, so rude, showing no courtesy). I can't change anyone's mindset (The chinese government has plans to take English out of the core education curriculum).
Vietnam as well, looking at the poor being squeezed dry, looking at how some people work a living, earning on merely tipping basis without monthly basic pay, it brings out plenty of mixed emotions. Looking at how bad the traffic conditions are and how rude people behave in an unforeseeable situation, it makes one angry yet helpless. I was knocked down by a fortunately-normal-speed-bike but all I got was cold stares and scoldings, no care, no help, no anything from any passer-by.
I look down on such societies, at the same time I pity the people under the influences of such societies. When will they move out of their comfort zone to look at the bigger picture. When will they look beyond their own benefits and truly see how changing their actions will improve the society in whole.
Stepping out of my home really makes me see things in a different light. I felt fortunate after seeing things I don't get to see if I were to stay in this little red dot. That kinda experience are more valuable than what you get from watching television program or reading thick encyclopedia. Images fade over time but the feeling of an experience don't.
I don't want to change the way I think/act even when I am in an unfamiliar environment. Even though insignificant, I would want to stay the way I am and hopefully influence people around me to look at things beyond their comfort zone. Saying thank you, saying please, being considerate, to think for others, to think for the society, to improve the quality of living for everyone. At least I stay the way I am.
